Queen’s Diamond Jubilee

On Queen’s Diamond Jubilee again~ I'm glad to have chance to visit different exhibitions about the Queen. In the supermarkets, I found packaging of some products has been changed into attractive retro style. Kellogg's is one of those, and so do Colgate, the toothpaste : )

Sometimes, you prefer London cos' they welcome Arts. But, Hong Kong is always my favorite, although we sometimes angry with its politic...and it is too 'commercial'....

Dulwich Festival

Received a booklet of Dulwich Festival and I was struggling at home....Serious headache and 'never enough' rest....I left home finally and visited some of the artist's home, scattered around in Dulwich. I was happy to chat with some of the artists and their works were inspiring to me, although I could not afford to buy ones...

It is an event likes 'Fotanian' in Hong Kong. However, it is so expensive and tiny for artists to work at home. Some artists rent a 'flat' in the industrial building. And during the days of 'Fotanian', we'd pick a map and visit their open studio. It surprised one of the British artists, yeah...it is quite different here : )

I was not listening

I was never listening when I was a kindergarten kid. I never agreed that we could not chat if we laid down on the table. There was no connection with my month and my neck. My teacher did not explain to me and just asked me to shut up. I never liked my teachers until I have promoted to secondary schools.

Candies

My mum bought me different kinds of candies when I was a kid. I was not obsessed with sweet, but I really like to collect their lovely packaging...maybe my intention to study design rooted by these candies, haha...Never knows.

Birth of Jean Tu

I am glad to sit in the Stella's presentation, about birth of Jean Tu and study of Character design, at Central  Saint Martins last week. She hoped to punch me on the stage when I asked her very 'PolyU-styled' question. It is good to think, haha!

Indian ink

At the time I arrived London and studying some European illustration history, the Victorian style illustration interested me. I bought the indian ink and let make fun with it. It is relaxing to keep drawing the fine lines, although it looks detailed.

1st assessment at college

It was my 1st assessment at college this week. We carried all the journals, sketchbooks, paper works, finished and unfinished works for assessment. Fingers crossed, everything will be fine : )

Time to work on other things at home, when the sketchbooks are not by my side.

Little weather album

I have made a little book, which is a collection of Peko's, Pudo's and Popo's photos in different weathers. It is part of my research and they help me for brainstorming and layout making.

Would it be nice?

I must share my friend, Ryan's travel log to you (http://www.woulditbenice.com/). He is now travelling with his bike. When I told him I had an idea to study overseas in the beginning of last year, he told me he is going to travel around the world~ I was really excited to hear that, and we understand each other without hesitation and totally support. We kept talking about our preparation after movie, and we started our count down to my study and his travel.

Actually we do not come from rich family, we earned some extra money from freelances and we don't pursue material life. We accept any possibility and just GO AHEAD. As just always mentioned by our boss, 'Open your eyes'. Yes, we hope to see and feel more, if we have chance. Just plan without regret. What we are seeing here is not as fantastic as in the kaleidoscope, but we appreciate and understand the culture in different cities. Wonderful things could happen in small towns, not only in rich cities.

Sometimes, we are disappointed by some 'cultural' people in the front, only explain the world with their perception and assumption...without trying to experience, understand and appreciate the others' culture.

Put down yourself, and you will see more.
There should be more, other than gossip, jealousy...and looking down...

Good to cry

Olympic attack

Because Olympics in London, there are many changes in this city. Seats in the Tube have been renewed (finally...it was very dirty...) and you'd see some ads advising passengers to keep the train clean. But, this one is a bit rude to me although it is creative...Passengers will look at the small text and the editors will rethink what they are doing..What do other Londoners and travelers think of this?

"Tokyo Sonata (東京奏鳴曲. Directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa 黑澤清) is one of my favorite movies (DVDs) I watched in London. It is a story of ordinary Japanese family and presented in subtle way. The father lost his job, and he was looking for a new job but he has no special skills. He tried to maintain his authority in front of his families by leaving home with suits everyday, and stopping his sons to archive what they want. The mother was helpless and she could not have any control on both sons' directions. It was sad, but it reflects the reality in Japan...It reminded me another movie "Nobody Knows”.

There is no perfect city, without problem...

Work harder

So expensive to buy Japanese product in London...but it is preferred to have better quality tools for work. I will work harder, and I will keep using this for drawing layout in the coming years...

Oppssss...I think I have 6th sense....When I was browsing at Muji, and the mechanical pencils attracted me. I did not think I will need a new one, and I just hoped my friend is still using the one I bought him. But, I discovered my existing one broken on the next day. This is a very old one I bought in my secondary school study. I wondered why I have so many rulers in my pencil case, but I forgot to bring the Muji ones from HK...Anyway, time to take a rest...or I'd better prepare for my coming assessment and review :p

A DIY chicken book - 1

I was so nervous on my final project recently, so I took a rest and did Chinese painting as meditation. I practiced drawing little chicken and sadly most of them failed. I cut the good ones and sewed them on cloth and combined them into a book for better collection. I am happy my friends and visitor at the zine fair loved it a lot. As promised to my dad, I will paint more :)
